Puck’s flight ends in an instant. A shadow sweeps from the alley mouth, and THUD! — he’s slammed hard against the wall, Karu’s forearm pressed across his chest. Puck wheezes in surprise, caught off guard.
Karu leans close, calm and deliberate, a faint smile playing on his lips. “You look tired, Puck,” he murmurs. “Stop and chat for a while. Catch your breath.” The faint glint of a blade flashes between them as Puck freezes, realizing who he’s facing.
Meanwhile, several streets away, Tengu darts through the crowd, tracking Holly and Biv. His shoulder collides with a man, sending curses flying. “Hey, asshole! What’s your prob—” The words die in his throat as Tengu turns, eyes cold, one hand raised.
A sharp burst of light flares between his fingers. The man screams as his skin blisters and splits under the sudden magic. Tengu exhales sharply, unbothered. “...Tch.” He lowers his hand and moves on without looking back, the street falling silent behind him.
