Holly tugs Biv’s sleeve, pointing frantically across the dim square. “Look, up there! There’s a light on in that tent!”

Biv follows her gaze, breathing hard. The pale canvas glows faintly in the dark, lamplight flickering behind it. “Somebody’s in there, at least,” Holly says, half whispering. “We’ll hide out here ’til he passes.”

They dart toward the tent, slipping between the scattered stalls and makeshift booths of the night market.

Moments later, Tengu appears at the far end of the street, his sharp eyes catching the faint movement of the tent’s flap. The fabric stirs with a soft FWUMP! as it settles.

He exhales through his nose, a faint glow kindling behind his eyes, irritation hardening his expression. “...Tch.” The light from inside the tent flickers once more as he turns away, missing them by seconds.
