FaerieTales Page 2. This scene from the indie comic *FaerieTales* shows Puck turning to a crying baby and offering to tell her a story to pass the time.

Cover page! One day I might go back through and re-paint all the covers. That actually sounds soothing.

The man swivels his chair toward the exhausted mother. He props his chin on one hand, offering a hesitant smile. The mother, uncertain and surprised, pulls the baby closer.

“Hey! …Does the baby like stories?”

“Um… sure… I suppose… she’s only two…”

“Silly question. Everybody likes stories.”

He leans in, catching the baby’s gaze.

“Well, not many people know this, but once upon a time Earth was filled with magical creatures! There were faeries, elves, sidhe, mermaids and unicorns… there might have even been a dragon or two!”

Images bloom as he speaks.

A dark-skinned elfin woman trails fire from her hand.
A figure in South American dress makes pumpkins and plants erupt from the earth.
A shadowy hunter creeps through pine branches.
A mermaid beckons from the water.
A dragon’s tail vanishes beneath the border of the scene.
