FaerieTales Inside Cover. The interior cover of the fantasy webcomic *FaerieTales* features a note from the author, reflecting on the inspirations and motivations behind the story.

Cover page! One day I might go back through and re-paint all the covers. That actually sounds soothing.

Page: Issue 01_00a – Inside Cover with Author Commentary

Image Description (for screen readers):

A handwritten note fills most of the page in a casual, enthusiastic font, styled to resemble classic indie comic commentary. Below the text are several pencil-style character sketches in a loose, expressive style. Three characters are grouped together to the left: a tall, serious elf-like figure in a buttoned coat stands behind a smaller, stout girl with a determined expression, and another figure leans over her shoulder holding a bat overhead with dramatic flair. To the right, there are floating head sketches: a pair of girls with ponytails (one scowling, one looking surprised or confused), and below them, a strong-jawed elf-like man with long hair, looking serious and intense.

Text Content (Author’s Note):

“So I’d envisioned this space as something like the old school comics of my youth—the old black and white indie comics where the author would scribble some thoughts on the inside cover, maybe answer some questions, throw a sketch or two in. Of course, this is the first issue, so nobody has any questions for me yet, and Tumblr’s probably a more efficient space for that anyway! But that was one of the things I miss about the old comics, that and pen-and-ink artwork without screentones. So here we are anyway!

FaerieTales is a story I’ve had in my head, one way or another, for decades now. It was the comic strip I doodled in my notebooks, the universe of bedtime stories I told my children, the journals I scribbled out in my spare time and the RP world my bestie T and I played in for years. But at its heart, in my head, it was always a comic. I tried to write it several times over the years as a novel and it never quite fit, it’s not what the story was meant to be. So while I occasionally write prose side stories for the various characters, here it finally is as it always appeared in my head, or at least as close as my fingers and my dangerously old computer can get!

If you’re reading this on a platform other than Patreon, just know that you can read the comic for free there as well! And if you want to throw me a couple of dollars a month and get some extra content, the paid subscriptions start at $2. The tiers are listed over there, but they include things like sketches, prose side stories, worldbook entries, and occasionally the brushes and fonts that I’ve created for the comic. It helps keep the lights on, my house full of animals fed, and hopefully will enable me to get a new (or new enough) computer before this one goes completely tits up. If you’ve read this far… wow, thanks! And here are a few sketches for sticking with it this long, even if some of the characters won’t show up for a couple of issues yet:”
